Breaking News: Massive Earthquake Strikes Central Mexico

Magnitude 7.6 Quake Kills Hundreds, Destroys Buildings

Emergency Services Mobilized, Rescue Efforts Underway

Mexico City, Mexico - September 19, 2023 - At least 450 people have been killed and thousands injured after a massive earthquake measuring magnitude 7.6 struck the central Mexican state of Michoacán on Monday morning. The quake caused widespread destruction, collapsing buildings and leaving entire neighborhoods in ruins.

The epicenter of the earthquake was located near the town of Coalcomán, about 130 kilometers northwest of Mexico City. The quake was felt strongly in the capital and surrounding areas, causing power outages and sending people fleeing into the streets.

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has declared a state of emergency in Michoacán and ordered emergency services to be mobilized. The Mexican Army, Navy, and Red Cross are all involved in the rescue and recovery efforts. Rescue workers are using heavy equipment to search through the rubble for survivors.

The earthquake has also caused significant damage to infrastructure. Roads and bridges have been damaged or destroyed, making it difficult for emergency services to reach affected areas. Power outages have also affected millions of people.

The death toll is expected to rise as rescue crews continue their search through the rubble. Hospitals are overwhelmed with patients, and many people are still unaccounted for.

International aid organizations are also pledging support to Mexico. The United States has offered assistance with search and rescue efforts, and the United Nations has sent a team of experts to assess the damage.
